Born in New Haven, CT to proud parents, Rabbi Naftali and Carol Kalter. He is one of 6 children; he has 4 older sisters and one younger brother.
At age 7, Yossi (as he was known then) and family moves from New Haven to Chicago, IL where Yosef attends the Arie Crown Hebrew Day School through 8th grade.
The family moves to Milwaukee where Yosef attends the Wisconsin Institute for Torah Study (WITS) and is part of the graduating class of '99. Yosef attends Rabbi Zachai's Beis Medrash shuir in 2000, the year after he graduates the high school program.
Yosef travels to Israel for a year and a half to learn in the Chofetz Chaim branch in Jerusalem.
Yosef, determined to continue his studies, moves back to Milwaukee where he attends Rabbi Rauch's shuir.
Yosef moves to New York to attend the Rabbinical Seminary of America (main branch for Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim) to learn in the advanced Bais Medrash program full time.
Yosef marries Miss Bracha Torem of Milwaukee, WI and joins the RSA Kollel in NY.
Yosef and his wife, Bracha, have 3 beautiful boys.
Yosef learns for his semicha (rabbinical ordination) from Chofetz Chaim while he attends the Kollel Ner Yehoshua at Yeshiva Zichron Aryeh in Cedarhurst, NY.
After spending some time building up an Executive Learning program in NY, Rabbi Yosef Kalter and family move out to Las Vegas. He is a member of the Kollel and is employed by the Adelson Educational Campus in Las Vegas to uphold rigorous kashrus standards in the facility as a supervisor.
Yosef is diagnosed with terminal liver cancer and begins his journey to fight this dreaded disease. Yosef's family keeps everyone updated through 10 Minute Dose and the Kalter Family News email lists. Over 300+ people sign up to follow Yosef's progress and are inspired by Yosef's journey. Many programs and initiatives are started as a merit for Yosef's recovery.
After all medical options in Las Vegas are exhausted, Yosef and his family uproot themselves to Queens, NY to begin an experimental clinical trial. They stay with a local family that generously opens their home to them along with their 3 children and the many visitors who will stop by for what will be Yosef's final few months. Yosef has many visitors and famous personalities who are inspired by their visits with him and impressed by his optimism and determination to fight his medical condition despite the odds.
Yosef is admitted to Montefiore hospital in the Bronx and requests a Special Mitzvah Campaign be launched as a merit for himself and all others who are sick in Klal Yisroel. Over 550+ people participate.
